By David Allen Journal Star sports reporter PEORIA — There were no local feature winners Wednesday night during the DIRTcar UMP Summernationals stop at Peoria Speedway. But local fans couldn’t have asked for more from the three feature races on a hard track that was very fast. Series points leader Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., and NASCAR veteran driver and announcer Kenny Wallace each had dominant victories. Pierce won the 40-lap Super Late Models main event and a $5,000 payday. Pierce bounced back from a rare off night the previous day, when he barely got on the track because of trailer problems, for his eighth Summer Nationals win of the year. The 19-year-old took the lead on the backstretch...

AMA All-Star Flat track Motorcycles invade the Peoria Speedway on Friday May 27th. Gates Open at 3 PM, Practice at 5 PM, and Races start at 7 PM. Weekly Racing is set for Saturday May 28th. Gates open at 4 PM, Hot Laps at 5 PM, and Races at 6 PM. The Billy Neal Memorial is set for Monday May 30th paying $2,000.00 to win for UMP Modifieds. Also racing that night will be the UMP Late Models, UMP Street Stocks, and UMP Hornets.

It was another beautiful Saturday evening at the Peoria Speedway with over 100 cars checked into the Pit Area. Ohios Rusty Schlenk and Roger Rebholz would put a show on in the UMP Late Model Feature. Schlenk would jump out early looking to have it in the bag when Rebholz took the new Rocket Chassis to the top shelf and started reeling in the 91 of Schlenk. Rebholz would catch Schlenk coming out of turn 2 and throw a slide job on Schlenk in turns 3 and 4 and would take off with the lead. Schlenk never lost sight as he would track Rebholz down with 4 laps to go and deliver his own slide job in turns 3...

Competing in the night’s featured race at Peoria Speedway, the 22-year-old Peorian won his first race of the season by outdueling Steven Brooks in the 40-lap Modified Feature. Weisser, who earned $2,064 by taking the checkered flag in the Gary Cook Jr. Memorial’s top event, was able to put himself into the winner’s circle thanks to some late maneuvering to deny Brooks. “It was real close,” said Weisser, whose last feature win was in the 100-lap race last September. “I got out there in front for a while and then the bottom started to go...
